Heckscher State Park

Heckscher Parkway Field 1
East Islip, NY 11730
(631) 581-2100
Twenty miles of trails, swimming in the Great South Bay and boating attract more than a million visitors per year.

Ladies and gentlemen, Heckscher park is one of my FAVORITE state parks... Why? Well only because you can swim, bike, and run all in the same park and never get bored!!

BIKE: In the park, once you park your car in field one - the loop starts on your left past the basketball courts... It's a 4 mile loop and a bit hilly but you can barely feel the hills! If you are a speedy rider be cautious for geese and deer! Usually the deer stay on the grass and eat - but the geese like to wander across the road!

RUN: On the other side of the road (loop) there is a fitness trail - with cool billboards like in the picture below along the trail for people to workout while being on the trail - I haven't tried it but I have read couple of the boards and it is not easy! The trail is just a great long road (4 miles but seems longer) to just run.. You will see geese and deer along the way so be cautious.

SWIM: There is a beach - and swimming IS allowed BUT only between the green flags!

ALSO! There is a pool located in the park BUT it is closed this season so the beach will be the only swimming place you can get this season ~

**There are picnic tables
available with grills for a cook out

*FOREST + PEOPLE IN SHORTS + BUGS = ALOT OF MOSQUITO BITES! PLEASE BRING THE BUG SPARY! YOU WON'T BE IRRITATED ON YOUR RUN FROM THOSE PESKY BUGS!*

**TIP: TO PARK AT ANY STATE PARK IT WILL COST 8-10 DOLLARS, TO SAVE SOME MONEY I RECOMMEND BUYING THE EMPIRE PASSPORT ($65 A YEAR).
AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE AT ANY STATE PARK - PARK OFFICE; ONLINE; OR THROUGH MAIL.**
